🔹 Challenging Market Conditions

* Limited new investment is slowing down projects across many sectors

* Aging infrastructure needs careful management to protect value in a changing climate

• Lack of common green standards creates inconsistencies across regions and organizations

* Unclear legal, regulatory, accounting, and tax treatments on carbon transactions complicate valuation and planning

* Government approval processes for new materials and technologies can delay tight project schedules

🔹 Climate Change Mitigation & Adaptation

• Hong Kong’s existing infrastructure and assets would greatly benefit from proactive climate-resilient planning

• Even small increases in CO2 have noticeable effects — focus is shifting toward practical adaptation measures

• Exciting initiatives like Hong Kong’s first hydrogen bus and universities as “living labs” showcase forward-thinking collaboration

• Hong Kong is leading in Asia with a green taxonomy bridging Chinese and EU frameworks, plus innovative tokenized green bonds (with verification tech evolving rapidly)

🔹 Technology & AI Disruption

• Reliable data collection and analysis are essential — you can only manage what you measure

• Tokenized green bonds represent an innovative early application, while real-time tracking solutions continue to improve

• Building-integrated photovoltaics (BIPV) are emerging as a promising energy-saving feature for future buildings

The road ahead is challenging, but with collaboration, innovation, and bold action, Hong Kong can lead in sustainable development!
